About

My passions are summed up in writing, audio storytelling, and teaching communication.

Writing

I am an award-winning writer with web, print and broadcast news reporting and public relations experience.

My strategy for work is simple: Engage the audience and meet the business objective.

By creating stories for your website, newsletter, social media platforms, articles, and podcast, I can engage your audience. How? I focus on what they need to know. I also turn complex issues into clear and concise text.

My writing has appeared in Bloomberg, New York Daily News, Philadelphia Inquirer, Philadelphia Business Journal, KYW1060, suburban Philadelphia newspapers, and Patch.com.

I have written branded content for businesses, banks, hospitals, schools, universities and nonprofit organizations.

Audio Storytelling

Writing for the ear is different than writing for print or social media.

As a broadcast journalism student, I learned to write broadcast style. It’s an art.  I honed my skills as a radio news reporter for several Cleveland radio stations.

There is no room for rambling. Words for podcasts and news must be short, simple and clear. Audio copy is timed to be “on the dot” for recording.

Part of audio storytelling is voicing the content. In Cleveland, I announced news daily, hosted afternoon-drive shows, and interviewed guests for talk shows. Delivering copy with understanding and proper pacing and inflection that match the subjects are key.

Teaching

Teaching college students media literacy skills that include recognizing their biases and propaganda in messages, how to write and produce print, audio, and video work, and consider issues in media and society, brings me joy.

I am an encourager by nature and push students to hone skills they can use for a lifetime, whether they are a butcher, baker, or podcast maker.

There’s no dusty content in my classes. Whenever I teach, I present real-time issues to engage students.  Students respond. I foster respectful dialogues on hot-button issues.

Based on student evaluations, I have ranked as “Best in School” for engaging students, presenting content relevant to their lives, stimulating learning, providing useful feedback, respecting students’ ideas, opinions and concerns; genuinely caring about students’ progress and success, and students recommending me as an instructor.

I also co-advised the award-winning Montgazette, Montgomery County Community College’s ‘newspaper. I helped staff strategize content for issues and social media messaging to attract more readers, coached reporters, and edited stories.
